How Discount Tire pricing actually works

The tyre price is only part of what you pay — mounting, balancing, valve stems and disposal are charged per tyre and sit outside most codes. Manufacturer rebates on a set of four typically exceed any retailer discount.

1. 1

   Price the fitting charges separately

Mounting, balancing, valve stems and disposal are charged per tyre and usually sit outside the code.

2. 2

Look for manufacturer rebates on a set of four

Tyre makers run rebate offers on full sets that typically exceed any retailer code.

3. 3

Check the certificate or road hazard programme

Optional protection is priced per tyre and is a separate decision from the discount.

4. 4

   Compare the total out-the-door price

Quotes differ more in fitting charges than in tyre price.
