AliExpress Promo Codes & Coupons: Where to Enter Them and Why They Fail

AliExpress has more ways to save than most shops, and that is exactly why its codes confuse people. There are coupons you collect, coupons sellers give out, select coupons that only work in certain stores, promo codes you type in yourself, and coins on top of all of them. This guide explains where each one goes at checkout, why a code gets refused, and what you can combine, with every rule taken from AliExpress's own Help Center and checkout.

AliExpress coupons vs promo codes: what is the difference?

AliExpress uses both words, and they work in different ways:

• Coupons are collected into your account before you buy. When you place an order, AliExpress automatically applies the maximum discount from the coupons you hold. You can see which coupon it picked, and change or remove it on the payment page.
• Promo codes are typed in by you at checkout, in the "Promo codes" box. Each one belongs to an AliExpress campaign with its own rules, limits and expiry date.
• Coins are collected through daily check-in in the AliExpress app and, according to AliExpress, can be combined with other kinds of discounts, including coupon codes.

Where to enter an AliExpress promo code

The promo code box is in the order Summary on the checkout page, but it stays closed until you open it:

1. Add your items to the cart and go to checkout.
2. Find "Promo codes" in the Summary. It sits under the subtotal, with an Enter button next to it.
3. Click Enter. A text box with an Apply button opens, above the shipping fee and the total.
4. Paste the code and press Apply. AliExpress promo codes are case-sensitive, contain only letters and numbers, and have no spaces, so paste rather than retype.
5. Check the total before you place the order. If the code worked, the total drops.

AliExpress prints a warning right under the field: promo codes have limits and expiry dates, and one can stop working between the moment you find it and the moment you apply it. That is normal for AliExpress codes, which is why it pays to have a second code ready.

AliExpress promo code not working? The real reasons

AliExpress's Help Center lists the reasons a code or coupon is refused. Work through them in this order:

• It has expired or been used. Go to Account > My Coupons. If the status says Expired or Used, it cannot be used again.
• The order is below the minimum spend. Most AliExpress codes have a threshold, and it is measured without tax and shipping. AliExpress's own example: a coupon for orders over $100 cannot be used on an order worth $80 before tax and shipping fees.
• The campaign ran out. Codes are limited and handed out first come, first served, according to the rules and stock of each campaign.
• It only works in one place. Some coupons are valid only in the app or only on the website, and some only on specific items.
• It is a seller coupon and your basket mixes sellers. Seller coupons only work on items from the same seller, and some only on a selection of that seller's products.
• It is a select coupon and the item is not included. Select coupons only work on certain items from selected stores. AliExpress also notes that some Russian sellers do not accept select coupons at the moment.
• It was typed wrongly. Codes are case-sensitive and have no spaces, so a stray space from copying is enough to break one.

Every collected coupon is listed in Account > My Coupons, split into unused, used and expired, with each coupon's usage threshold. Check it before you shop so you know which spend you are aiming for.

Do AliExpress coins stack with promo codes?

Yes. AliExpress says coins can be combined with other kinds of discounts, including coupon codes. Two things to know:

• Daily check-in is app-only now. AliExpress moved coin check-in to the app, so collect them there each day.
• Big sales pay out more coins. During big sales such as the Anniversary Sale and 11.11, AliExpress runs activities and games that award game points and coins, and those coins can be exchanged for coupons.

AliExpress 11.11 and other big sales

AliExpress names two events as its big sales: 11.11, which falls on November 11, and its Anniversary Sale. During both, the games and activities mentioned above are the main extra way to earn coins and swap them for coupons. AliExpress announces each sale on its sale pages in the site and app, and on its Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and VK accounts. Once you have an account, AliExpress also emails its latest deals, and you can switch on push notifications in your account preferences.

Discount sizes and dates are set per campaign, so check the sale page when it opens. We add new AliExpress codes to our AliExpress page when the coupon feeds we check list them.

Buyer Protection: what happens if something goes wrong

A discount only counts if the order arrives as promised. AliExpress's Buyer Protection Program covers you if your item does not arrive, arrives damaged, or is not as described:

• Not as described, damaged or short: covered within 15 days of receiving the item.
• Not delivered or lost in transit: covered within the guaranteed delivery window shown on your order detail page.

To claim, contact the seller first, then file a request under My orders > order detail > Return/refund, giving your reason and uploading anything needed. Eligible refunds go back to your original payment method or, if you choose and certain conditions are met, to AliExpress's fast refund-bonus. AliExpress also lists a Free Return service within 15 days of delivery. If you return something because you changed your mind, you pay the return shipping.

Buyer Protection is in addition to your legal rights. AliExpress notes that in most EU countries buyers generally have a 2-year legal conformity warranty and a 14-day right to return, and that underwear, socks, food, batteries, customized items and items prohibited on AliExpress are excluded from its return policy.

More ways to pay less on AliExpress

• Visit the Coupon Center and collect coupons before you check out; AliExpress applies the best one for you.
• Check the Store Promotion section on each product page for that seller's own coupons.
• Keep seller coupons to one seller's items, and check Account > My Coupons for each threshold.
• Work out your minimum spend on item value alone, because tax and shipping do not count.
• Paste codes rather than retyping them: they are case-sensitive and have no spaces.
• Check in for coins in the app every day, and use them with your promo code.
• Save bigger purchases for 11.11 and the Anniversary Sale, when games pay out coins you can swap for coupons.
• If AliExpress picks a coupon you would rather keep, change it on the payment page.
